How to edit a QR Code?

Learn how to edit a dynamic QR Code once it has been created

Uniqode offers a range of features for creating, customizing, and managing your QR Codes to match your needs — from generating QR Codes in bulk and updating the destination link and design to converting a QR Code into a Linkpage or managing your codes across different subscription plans. This guide walks you through each of these.

Dynamic QR Codes allow you to update the destination URL without changing the QR Code image, making them ideal for scenarios where the target link may change over time. Additionally, static QR Codes have fixed destinations and cannot be edited after creation, making dynamic QR Codes a more flexible option for long-term use cases.

Additionally, it is important to note that you cannot convert a static QR Code into a dynamic one or vice versa.

Prerequisites

  • Uniqode account with Editor or Admin access

  • Edit capabilities are available on all plans

Note: Anyone with access to your Uniqode account credentials can log in and update the settings of a dynamic QR Code. Ensure that your account credentials are shared only with trusted individuals to maintain control over your QR Codes.

Editing a dynamic QR Code

  1. Sign in to your Uniqode account

  2. Head to QR Codes on the left panel

  3. In the QR Code listing page, click on the name of the QR Code you want to edit

Alternatively, click on the three-dot menu in the QR Code row and select the Edit option.

4. Update the content, customize the design or add additional settings such as location tracking, password protection and more. For instance, you can change the QR Code’s destination from a Landing Page to a Linkpage by editing its type and selecting the new Linkpage.

5. If you want to retain the current QR image, skip the 'Customize' step.

6. Click Finish to save the changes.

Once saved, the original QR Code will reflect the updated link. There are no limits to how many times you can update the links for your QR Codes in Uniqode, ensuring they remain relevant and functional over time.

However, if a QR Code's destination is deleted, archived, or its URL is changed after printing, scanning the code may result in an error message. Ensure the destination remains active and unchanged to avoid such issues.

Customizing QR Code Appearance

After generating a QR code, you can customize its design to align with your branding:

  1. Locate the QR code in the QR Codes section.

  2. Click Edit and navigate to the Customize section (indicated by a Palette icon).

  3. Adjust design elements such as colors, patterns, and logos.

  4. Save your changes and download the customized QR code.

Adjusting Dot Density

To make the QR code pattern less dense, reduce the error correction level during the creation process. This adjustment can help simplify the design while maintaining functionality.

Creating QR Codes in Bulk

To generate multiple QR codes at once, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the QR Codes section from the left-hand menu and select Bulk Upload.

  2. Choose the type of QR code you want to create (e.g., Website QR codes).

  3. Download the provided bulk template.

  4. Fill in the template without altering the structure. Remove sample values but retain the columns. Only the green-highlighted columns are mandatory.

  5. Save the completed file and upload it back to the platform to generate your QR codes in bulk.

Linking to a webpage

You can link a QR Code to any publicly accessible webpage, including pages with extensions such as .aspx. To set this up:

  1. When creating or editing your QR Code, enter the destination as a full URL, including the protocol (e.g., https://www.example.com/page.aspx).

  2. Make sure the page is publicly accessible and loads correctly in a web browser.

  3. Save your changes — the QR Code will direct users to that webpage with no further configuration needed.

Converting a QR Code to a Linkpage

If you'd rather have your QR Code open a Linkpage instead of a single destination, you can switch its type after creating it:

  1. Edit the QR Code.

  2. Go to Setup → Select Type.

  3. Switch the destination from Landing Page to Linkpage.

  4. Choose the Linkpage you want to use from the dropdown.

  5. Save your changes to complete the conversion.

Managing QR Codes on a lower plan

If you downgrade to a plan with a lower QR Code limit — for example, the Essential plan's 15 active Dynamic QR Codes — you can stay within that limit without losing your codes:

  • Deactivate (move to Trash) any QR Codes you're not actively using, to stay within your new plan's limit.

  • Reactivate them again later, as long as you stay within the plan's limit.

  • Turn off any premium features on your QR Codes before downgrading, since these may not be included in the lower plan.

Creating a QR Code with Linkpage Type

To create a QR Code with Linkpage as the type:

  1. Create a new QR code and select Linkpage as the type.

  2. Either create a new Linkpage or select an existing one.

  3. Assign each button on the Linkpage to a specific destination, such as a website or social media profile.

  1. Edit the QR Code.

  2. Go to Setup → Select Type.

  3. Switch the destination from Landing Page to Linkpage.

  4. Choose the Linkpage you want to use from the dropdown.

  5. Save your changes to complete the conversion.

Embedding Multimedia on Linkpages

To display a Vimeo video directly on a Linkpage:

  1. Use the Embed Video widget available on the Linkpage editor.

  2. Obtain the share link for your Vimeo video.

  3. Add the link to the Embed Video widget to display the video inline on the page.
