Capture leads even when you are offline

Collect leads offline and sync them automatically when you're back online.

Written by Bidisha Sinha

Never miss a lead — even without a Wi-Fi or cellular connection. The Uniqode Cards app lets you capture contacts at events, conferences, and anywhere in between, and automatically syncs them to your account the moment you're back online.

Prerequisites

  • Offline leads capture is available on all Uniqode Cards plans

  • Uniqode Cards app installed on iOS or Android

How offline lead capture works

When you're offline, the app saves any new leads locally on your device. As soon as your connection is restored — whether by reconnecting to Wi-Fi, switching back to mobile data, or simply reopening the app — those leads are automatically pushed to your Uniqode account in the background. You don't need to do anything extra.

Note: Offline capture works for creating new leads only. Editing or deleting existing contacts requires an active internet connection to prevent conflicting changes.

Capture a lead offline

You can capture leads in two ways — by scanning a business card or badge, or by entering details manually.

Scan a business card or conference badge

  1. Open the Uniqode Cards app.

  2. Tap Scan and point your camera at the business card or badge.

  3. If you're online, the app uses AI to auto-fill contact details from the image. If you're offline, it takes you directly to the manual entry form — simply fill in the details yourself.

  4. Review and edit the pre-filled information as needed, then tap Save.

The contact is saved locally and will sync automatically once you're connected.

Note: When online, the AI extraction has a ~9-second timeout. If it takes longer than that, the app falls back to the manual form automatically — so you're never left waiting.

Enter a contact manually

  1. Open the Uniqode Cards app.

  2. Tap Add Contact (or the + button) to open the manual entry form.

  3. Enter the contact's details — at minimum, a First Name and Last Name, or a captured card image.

  4. Tap Save.

The contact is saved instantly and queued for sync.

View pending (unsynced) leads

Leads captured offline appear at the top of your Contacts list with a "Pending sync" badge so you always know which ones haven't been uploaded yet.

Once synced, the badge disappears and the contact integrates seamlessly with the rest of your contact list — no duplicates, no manual clean-up needed.

Edit or delete a lead before it syncs

Changed your mind about a lead you captured offline? You can update or remove it before it reaches the server.

  • To edit: Tap the contact in your list and make your changes. The app will send the most up-to-date version when it syncs — no duplicate entries are created.

  • To delete: Swipe to delete (or use the delete option) on the pending contact. Since the lead hasn't been sent to the server yet, it's removed locally with no further action needed.

Note: You can only edit or delete leads that are still pending sync. Once a lead has been successfully uploaded, changes must be made while connected to the internet.

What happens when sync fails?

If a lead fails to sync (for example, due to a repeated connection issue), it will be flagged in your Contacts list. You'll have three options:

  • Retry — attempt to sync the lead again.

  • Edit & retry — correct any information before re-sending.

  • Discard — permanently remove the failed lead from your device.

Note: Sync is retried automatically with increasing intervals (up to ~5 minutes between attempts). Temporary server errors resolve on their own — you only need to act if a lead is explicitly marked as failed.

Before you log out

If you have pending leads that haven't synced yet, the app will warn you before you sign out. Make sure you're connected and your leads have synced before logging out to avoid losing any captured data.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

  • Can I capture leads offline on both iOS and Android?

Yes. Offline lead capture is supported on both platforms.

  • Will leads be duplicated if I lose connection mid-sync?

No. The app uses a unique ID for every lead created, so even if a sync request is retried after a lost response, the same lead won't be created twice.

  • Do captured images sync too?

Yes. If you scanned a business card, the image is saved locally and uploaded automatically before the contact record is created in your account.

  • What if I'm offline for a long time?

All your captured leads remain safely stored on your device until connectivity is restored, even across app restarts.
