User roles and permissions in Uniqode Cards

Learn what each role — Owner, Admin, Editor, and Viewer — can do with your team's digital business cards.

Written by Bidisha Sinha

Uniqode Cards four key roles: Owner, Admin, Editor and Viewer. Each role controls a different level of access to cards, templates, contacts, and account settings — letting your whole team create and share digital business cards while keeping ownership, billing, and org-wide settings in the right hands.

Key role descriptions

There are four levels of access in Cards:

  • Owner: The Owner is the person who signed up for the Uniqode account. They have every permission across the account, including billing and subscription management, and they're the only role that can create or update a custom domain for the master organization. Every account has exactly one Owner.

  • Admin: Admins have full control over cards, templates, contacts, and users within their organization. They can create and manage the organization's cards (including cards assigned to other people), set up integrations and webhooks, and add or remove teammates. Admins in the master organization can also set up a custom domain — Admins in a sub-organization cannot. Admins cannot access billing or subscription settings. Only the Owner can do that.

  • Editor: Editors can create, edit, and delete their own digital business card, along with their own QR code templates, assets, and contacts. They can't see or manage cards that belong to other people, and they don't have access to organization-wide settings, integrations, or user management.

  • Viewer: Viewers have the most limited access. They can view the account's shared assets and virtual backgrounds, collect and view contacts, and check card analytics — but a Viewer doesn't get their own digital business card created automatically, and they can't create, edit, or delete cards, templates, or contacts belonging to others.

Note: "Own only" means the person can manage what they personally created — an Editor's own card, an Editor's own QR templates, or the contacts they personally collected — but not the equivalent items belonging to teammates.

How to invite teammates and assign roles

  1. Log in to your Uniqode dashboard and click your profile icon in the top right.

  2. Select User Management from the menu.

  3. Click Add to invite a new user.

  4. Enter the person's email address, choose their Organization, pick an access group (Admin, Editor, or Viewer), and add their name.

  5. Click Send Invite. The person will receive an email invitation to join your Uniqode organization.

Note: Owners and Admins can change a teammate's role at any time by clicking the edit icon next to their name in User Management.

Tips for best results

  • Reserve Admin for people who manage the whole account. Since Admins can edit cards created by others and configure org-wide settings, keep this role limited to team leads or IT/ops owners rather than every card holder.

  • Use Editor for anyone who just needs their own card. Most employees only need to manage their own digital business card, contacts, and QR templates — Editor covers that without giving them visibility into teammates' cards.

  • Add Viewers for reporting, not day-to-day use. If someone only needs to check analytics or keep an eye on contact capture, Viewer keeps their access read-focused without risking accidental edits.
